In the June 13, 2009 edition of TIME magazine, the cover story was titled "Unfaithfully Yours." Caitlin Flanagan wrote a wonderful essay on the state of marriage in the U.S. and how it is effecting our children and society. I was very surprised to see an article with this perspective on the cover of TIME, but it is worth a read. You can find it here.For the less squeamish, Joel Stein wrote a humorous article on the growing trend of preserving the placenta after birth for the purpose of eating it as pill form later in life. Its been a while, but I'm back in action and on the blogsite again. I'm actually up at 1 a.m. with a severe eararche. Yuk.
I read the unfaithful article. Interesting stuff. Statistics affirm that the biblically stated intentions of marriage are the healthiest for kids. Hmpf. Imagine that.
But the culture has unshackled itself from the tyrannical reign of the church and the Bible, so they're gonna have it - pagan style. Ancient Rome was a culture filled with infidelity, serial monogamy, children out of wedlock, abortion, public sport that grew increasingly gruesome, and an unsustainable government machine that became increasingly bureaucratic, corrupt, and indebted... oh wait, did I say Rome? Oh, I meant...

Welcome back REV!!
One of the welcome surprises that has accompanied Obama's presdidency is his open expressions of the importance and necessity of fathers and marriages. With all of the attention placed on the 'romantic' nature of Barak and Michelle's date nights, one thing that is perhaps overlooked is the importance they are placing on their marriage. Wonderful and rare examples coming from Washington.
I have also noticed an article (http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking+News/Tech+and+Science/Story/STIStory_403297.html) about a "new" study indicating that couples who cohabitate before marriage are less likely to have a sustained and happy marriage. This is NOT the first study to find this to be true, but nonetheless it is good that it is being rediscovered.
